Please join us for the first Palmerston School Council meeting of the 24/25 school year on Wednesday, September, 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. This is a great opportunity to come out and hear what our amazing School Council does to support our school and initiatives throughout the school year. All are welcome, childcare available on request.
How it Works
The Palmerston School Council exists to provide a forum through which parents and other members of the school community can contribute to improving student achievement and the student experience.
The Council communicates with Parents through a few different outlets:
The council website can be found at palmerstonschoolcouncil.ca. It is a work in progress, so check back often for information and updates. Please sign up for our mailing list for regular updates. This site is also where you can sign up to volunteer for school community events and fundraising activities throughout the year.
Join the BRAND NEW Palmerston Parents WhatsApp Chat Group (for General Announcements, updates on Sports and Clubs and groups for each grade to gather digitally with other parents with children in the same grade).
Parents Facebook Page (Private) join in September. You will be asked your teachers name: https://www.facebook.com/groups/palmerstonpsparents/
Also Council will communicate via School Messenger which is an email directly to parents with students registered at the school.
Council fundraising and purchases are done almost exclusively through SCHOOL CASH ONLINE. The system is not currently active, but stay tuned for updates on initiatives that can be purchased through this site. Be sure to log on and sign in when you receive your students TDSB #!
Key focus areas of the Palmerston School Council include:
A source of information for all parents;
Provide parents with a voice at the school for information and improvements;
Collaborating with parents in their children’s learning through enrichment;
Compliment the school’s academic goals with council funded initiatives included but not limited to events and programming for the ARTS (including annual "Snowed In” Event) and STEM (including annual “Spring Ahead” Event), OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Program as well as supplementary School classroom supplies and Technology purchases.
Actively engage the community in fundraising events through programs like PIZZA LUNCH, FRESH FROM THE FARM, DANCE-A-THON, the annual MAYFEST fun fair and more.
To serve as advisers to Palmerston’s administration
Different Ways Parents can be involved in the School Council:
Chair or join a committee – every enrichment activity and fundraiser at the school needs parent champions and volunteers! The council supports Health and Wellness, Arts and S.T.E.M. programs as well as organizes Spirit Wear sales and more!
Attend monthly council meetings as often as possible and participate in discussion on matters of importance to the school community. Consistent attendees are also able to vote on all matters as well. (Meetings are held both virtually and in person at the school in the evening with childcare available)
Volunteer an hour or two of your time in advance of or on the day of a fundraising or enrichment activity
Other – the Council is always open to new ideas on how to engage the parent community
School Council Budget Allocation:
The School Council budget funds a series of activities in addition to those funded through the TDSB. This funding is raised throughout the school year through multiple small and large scale fundraising initiatives that include but are not limited to:
Harvest Festival
Fresh From the Farm - vegetable and fruit sale in the fall
February Dance-A-Thon
By-weekly Pizza Lunch
Mayfest
Silent Auction which brings in largest portion of fundraising for the school annually
These volunteer fundraisers are strategized, planned and executed by Palmerston Parent Volunteers. Without their involvement none of the Council funded initiatives would be possible year-to-year.
If you want to get involved or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. I look forward to seeing you all around the school and meeting you in person!
